Today was another one of those glorious springtime days that you just want to bottle up to save for when the next wave of winter weather gives us a sock in the gut. Bright sunshine, people eating brunch at outdoor tables, couples laughing while strolling arm-in-arm, and, that sure sign of the change of seasons: The Brooklyn Flea‘s first Saturday market having moved outside. Released from their wintertime abode at the old Williamsburgh Savings Bank, the Flea today was also the site of a fundraising Bakesale for Japan.
The bakesale table manned with volunteers was heaving, I mean, jam-packed with all sorts of goodies cooked up by local artisans. Although prices were indicated on the tags attached to some of the packages, most of the treats were for sale by suggested donation. I managed to snap photos of most of the gorgeous confections before gathering up a few things from a few of my favorite NYC bakers to take home with me for my sweet breaks this week. I’m looking forward to eating the Stuffed Oatmeal Cookie by Liddabit Sweets, the cupcakes and whoopie pie from Robicelli’s, and the Brownie from Fat Witch Bakery, but it was truly hard to narrow down my choices given all the delicious-looking items on the table. The bakesale is on for about another hour today, if you’d like to run over to Fort Greene to pick up something for dessert (or pre-ssert) today.
Buon appetito!
